5 Lug Swap

Recently i have been looking at converting my brakes and suspension to that of a 300zx twin turbo. Twin turbo 300zx's have 32mm front rotors and 4 piston aluminum calipers and a 240sx has a half the size rotors and single piston calipers. Also the 300zx has 5 lug hubs unlike a 240sx that has 4 lug hubs. In order to swap the brakes and hubs all i would need is some bigger 5 lug rims aftermarket front hubs and the factory 300zx brakes and rear hubs. Now all I have to do is find a 300zx in a junkyard or find someone selling parts on eBay or something and bolt them right on.

The advantage to having bigger brakes is that the brakes would resist fade under consistent heavy braking that would occur in race conditions. With 5 lug hubs the choice of rims would be much larger because there are many more cars that are 5 lug then there are cars with 4 lug hubs with the same bolt pattern as the 240sx.

Wheel Possabilities

It is time for some visual upgrades. Looking at my car you would think that it is a stock 240sx with an exhaust, and a huge front mount intercooler. The large intercooler draws some attention from the import enthusiast but the average person wouldn't think anything of it. So i have been looking for some rims that would look nice but not break my budget. So the first place i look for cheap things is on Ebay! I went to ebay and this is what came up.

I think the gold rims would look nice on my red 240sx and I have seen a 240sx with those silver Gram Light rims and that look nice but I don't want to have the same looking car as someone else. So we'll see what I decide in the future.

Like A New Car!

After installing the differnetial I just got it has made my car so much more fun it drive! In hte rain I can actualy move! Also drifting is soo much easier. Now the car is more predictable in the entry. I wish I wouldn't have waited so long! Next on the modification are some Prosport gauges and maybe rims. Here is a video of the gauges.

The Diff

Yesterday I finally got my Viscous Limited Slip differential in the mail. The only bad thing is that one of the fins on the back cracked off but luckily the cover on the diff that is in the car will fit the new one. All I need to do now is to change the gear oil in it and swap the covers and put it in!

Suspension Tunning

Over the last week I was getting tired of how hard the ride was with my Megan Racing coilovers. So I decided to take some time and tune them for some comfort instead or drifting. The coilovers are 32 way adjustable so I thought that it would take a while to adjust. Really it only took about 5 or 10 minutes. All I had to do is turn a knob a the top and the ride will get harder or softer. I turned the knob a few clicks to the softer side and took it for a ride. Sure enough the ride was 100 times softer and i could barely feel the bumps. They are some pretty awesome coilovers especially for the money!

Boost and Fuel

Some more things that i am planning on getting in the future are a Boost controller and Fuel controller. For a boost controller I want to get the new HKS EVC 4 it looks pretty nice and HKS doesnt make garbage so I know I can count on it. For a Fuel controller I want to get the New Apexi SAFC NEO also Apexi is known for making good products and many people i know have the older SAFC and it works great.

Here is a funny icon I found HAHA.

What's Up

Since that differential is so expensive and I would need someone to install it I changed my mine about it for now. Instead of that I am going to get a set of Megan Racing street coilovers. I have herd nothing but good things about them. Another plus to that is that I can put them in myself. I will post some pictuers when i take them.

Cool Drifting Video

Here is a pretty cool video i found on Youtube of a Nissan 240sx drifting in Japan

Next Addition to the project

A couple of days ago I stopped by a local tuner shop RT Tuning (the shop that installed my engine) and i wanted to know how much it would cost for them to install a Limited Slip Differential. I was thinking either a Kaaz or a Nismo 2 way diff. At first I was thinking about doing it my self but I figured it would be a lot of money and I didn't want to mess anything up. So i stopped by and asked and they told me that it would be around $1300 out the door. For me like most tuner guys that is a fair amount of money. So now i am thinking about getting a Viscous Limited Slip Differential from Japan and just installing it myself for about $300 total. The only down side of the Viscous differential is the only way I could get one is to get it used so I can't really tell how good of condition it would be in which is kind of a gamble. For now I am going to hold off until I feel comfortable spending that kind of money.

In the mean time I am going to get some power locks, some gauges (Boost and Air/Fuel ratio) and maybe power windows but they shouldn't be too expensive. Hopefully

Some Pictures of the Engine

Here is a picture of the new SR20DET and intercooler piping
Here is a picture or my Greddy front mount intercooler. You can only see half of it, I need to cut more off at the top.
Here is the Apexi N1 Dual exhaust it looks awesome and sounds even better!

Engine update

Getting the new engine was an awesome decision. The horsepower gains were enormous compared to the old engine. I had the car dynoed and new engine has 220hp and 215 ft/lbs of torque at 7psi. with all of the extra power I need to get some kind of limited slip differential so that I can get better traction. Right now i have an open differential which gives power to the wheel with out traction. But for now it is a blast and worth every penny.

What's Next

This week I have decided to drop a load of money and get a new engine from Japan. There are many engine to choose one but some are more expensive and hard to install. The engine I am going to put in is the Sr20DET. This engine is a 2.0L four cylinder that has a turbo from the factory. Also I am going to get a Greddy Spec V FMIC (Front Mount Intercooler), a Greddy Type RS Blow off valve, an Apex'i N1 Dual Exhaust, a Walbro 255 L/HR fuel pump. All of the parts and labor add up too... a lot of money. I choose the Greddy FMIC because it is rated very highly by some people I have talked to and it should slip right in with some minor modification to the engine bay and front bumper. I choose the Apex'i exhaust because it sounds deep and throaty unlike most 4 cylinder exhausts. Finally I chose the SR20DET because it has a very strong block, to hold boost, and the turbo is efficient up to 14 or 15 psi. One of the biggest factors is the it is one of the cheaper engines that will fit easily into my engine bay. I also got some other parts but they are pretty minor.

First Post on the Blog

I am the owner of a 1990 Nissan 240sx hatchback. I have been the owner for about 6 months and have start heavily modifying the engine and suspension. In this blog I will be talking about the products I have purchased and how well they work. Also, I will give my opinion on how worth while these parts were and how hard they were to install.
